Shonchi aka Sanchita Islam
I am an artist, writer and film maker, when I was 43 I recalled a childhood trauma and suddenly started to make music. I now play guitar, piano, harmonium, zitar and a bit of tabla, I make all my music in Logic and Ableton and to date I have made over 50 albums which I will start releasing one by one. I also do all the artwork for my album covers. This is mental music, born out of trauma. I am 48 now, there are not many British Bangladeshi artists creating electronic music, maybe there are, but I haven't come across any. I am principally a painter but I see myself as painting with sound. To date I have performed in Brussels, London, Berlin, Singapore, Nepal and Malaysia. To suddenly start making music so late in life has been one of the craziest things to ever happen, and sometimes I am still bewildered that I can make music. Asian women are barely represented in music, so I have a duty to put all my music out there, so far when people hear my music they dig it and that is gratifying.
