Tangela, or "Tangie" as she is better known, was born and raised in Conway, South Carolina. As a child, her love of music was fueled by her mother's singing and musical interests. When Tangie's mother realized music had become an integral part of her life, she enrolled her in music lessons. Tangie began full-time piano and organ work for her childhood church from grade school until graduating from college. Tangie studied music performance, piano and voice in college; she then moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became the keyboardist and vocalist of a band (Saleem & The Music Lovers). Tangie also started producing music during this part of her musical career. Some of the artists that influence Tangie's music are: Georgia Anne Muldrow, Muhsinah, King, Robert Glasper, J Dilla, Nicolay, Baby Rose, Sir, Iman Omari.
