CaLa Joi Ma’at is a gender nonconforming, neurodivergent singer-songwriter, rhythmist and healer-awakener based in the heart of England. S/he writes, records and produces all he/r own music. A poetry scholar from a long line of troupers and troubadours, he/r lyrics are rich with story-telling and rhythmic intensity. At the heart of he/r songs, a passion for spirituality lends a quality of loving wisdom and emotive transcendence. CaLa creates genre-blending music rooted in global folk, roots and ethnic traditions with influences from jazz, rock and pop. He/r sound shares DNA with Ani DiFranco, Beth Orton, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon and Scottish folk singer Barbara Dickson. He/r musical offerings exist in harmony with the spoken word pieces and healing meditations s/he shares as founder of he/r online sanctuary The Unburdened Heart. CaLa says: “I sing my truth to unburden hearts, offer my voice to raise the vibration of all beings, and share my creativity as healing for the world."
