Greg Beckham is a vocalist and songwriter whose musical roots reach back to the early 1980s, when he first began performing with XLR8R, a garage band from Northern California’s Central Valley. Drawn to the power, darkness, and drama of heavy music, Beckham developed a voice and writing style shaped by the classic metal and hard rock sounds of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Queensrÿche, Savatage, Chastain, and Mercyful Fate. In 1987, Beckham formed Magnum Opus with guitarist Billy Holmes, creating a project built on heavy riffs, melodic intensity, and a darker storytelling edge. After years of evolution, Magnum Opus was revived in 2007 with Bill Decker as a studio-focused recording project dedicated to crafting original music without being bound by live-performance limitations. Today, Beckham’s creative work continues through several original projects: Magnum Opus, Soul of Orion, Empire of the Lost, and Blackwater Gospel. Each project reflects a different side of his m
