Hi, It’s Neo here, ‘newplant’ was originally just a music project, born out of my love for reverberating guitars, Byzantian harmonies, and a need for a hobby during lockdown across 2020. However, as with any project, the more time I dedicated, the more I formed a distinct reason and motivation to continue.
The name ‘newplant’ is in reference to my own name – Neophytos, derived from νέος meaning "new" and φυτόν meaning "plant". Whilst I don't really resonate with its religious origin, I have always held a sense of pride regarding my own name for the people I have come from, and their stories.
So as a means of expressing myself for my own benefit, I chose to create the newplant art project, in hopes that the music I create can motivate, or simply entertain someone else.

Crow on a wire.
Crow on a wire was written with the idea in mind of what true paranoia feels like. There is an element of acceptance and introspection that always comes with the most stressful moments in our life. Everyone has something that can eat at them, the challenge is finding out how to navigate those moments.

Black Salamander.
Black Salamander takes to me a place like a labyrinth, shady characters, vulnerable sounds. I made this song thinking about what being in the 'twilight' of 4am is like, with thoughts about previous friends, loved ones, reflecting but moving forward. Also there is an element of terror, where most things you experience repeat themselves and life only seems to get faster.

Iris in the Dark.
I made this song thinking about the idea of being isolated, and in a foreign environment (whether that be physically or psychologically). Everyone has stages of growth and I felt like I was capturing when I've felt in the 'Eye of the Storm' of the next event in my life. When the things that distract us are gone and it's finally time for us to rest our eyes, we can become our selves again for a split second.more
