Kelly Staten - Vocals, Bass Josh Mitchell - Guitar, Vocals Jonny Tornga - Drums, Electronic Percussion With the release of the self-titled album, Protea takes a new approach to blending several genres to create something all their own. Laced with character, an edgy pop undertone, and plenty of hooks, the record boasts the aesthetic of alternative pop rock anthems. The beginnings of what would become Protea starts when songwriters Josh Mitchell and Kelly Staten met in Traverse City, MI. After seeing Jonny Tornga at their very first show, they recruited him almost straight away. With Mitchell performing vocals, guitar and keys, and Staten performing vocals, bass and keys as well, Tornga came on board as a percussionist as well as working the electronic elements. With the lineup finally formed, Protea ended up recording their self-titled album fairly quickly and have been performing and writing new music ever since.
