Jimmy Sims – aka “Sims-on-Sax” grew up playing the piano at the age of 9. His piano teacher was an elementary school nunn who would painfully pluck your fingers with a wooden ruler for every wrong note played during lessons. After three years of sore fingers, Jimmy decided to switch to the saxophone. As each year went by Coach Sims slowly started to blow notes from his saxophone. By age 19 he was playing as a guest soloist throughout the State of California. But his new career at age 23 in coaching football and teaching high school and college student-athletes, was extremely time consuming and for 25 years his saxophones were never played again. But one day his cousin Moses Burton, Jr spoke some encouraging words about the gift of music. Since that day Coach Sims is playing his saxophone with so much joy and thanks. Today, he knows how precious the unique gift of music is and wan to share his gift as much as possible.
