Based in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Wunderfish narrates sonic stories and soundscapes through synthesizers and samplers. From whimsical fairy tales of love and hope; to eerie and dark tragedies, each track offers a glimpse into scenes from the artist's own life. The 3rd String
Wunderfish’s “The 3rd String” is a folk-inspired instrumental electronica track that was composed around a short sample the artist discovered and recorded on a worn cassette tape during a journey through Japan. The sample features a traditional three-stringed shamisen, and is juxtaposed against modern dissonant synthesizers and robotic drum machines - most notably a Japanese Roland TR-909. The track begins with the lo-fi Japanese folk-sample behind a simple break rhythm and steadily progresses into a “traditional” bassline and four-on-the-floor beat. This movement represents a humble journey from a lush, mist-filled forest to a sprawling, chaotic urban concrete jungle.
