Velvet and Shadows
Velvet and Shadows Written By Loyd Davis Jr Recording Artist Loyd Davis Jr. I wrote this song for My, wife Julia Davis, it was a Happy Valentine's February 14th. 1993. to her it took me from January to February to finish the song that had been rotten since the late 80s and getting it recorded that it was still a studio in LA and then get it all together and getting before I could have Valentine's Day off the night before the day after. So when I came in of the road and arrived at home, I found a note from her, taped to the mirror above the fireplace addressed to the kids. Telling Them what was going on with her and I, this was on February 13th 1993, So she never knew of it's existence and she still doesn't know to this day. I had the original cut along with a music deal that I never signed the contract with RCA Records, locked away where I have everything else to do with my music and books. On February 13th 1993 I didn't think she deserved to hear the song or know of its existence. So I did the same thing I normally have done over the years just take it on hold somewhere forget about it until I cross it again... She will probably hear it now, if she hadn't been cheating on me for our entire marriage She would have known about so many more songs I had written and recorded for her...more

The Man Behind The Silence
The Man Behind the Silence" is a raw, deeply intimate acoustic-driven ballad that pulls back the curtain on a lifetime of survival, isolation, and ultimate redemption. Opening with a brief, hauntingly beautiful finger-picked guitar solo, the track wastes no time diving into the heavy reality of a soul weary from the road it has traveled. The song explores the invisible scars left by childhood physical and mental abuse—inflicted by the very people who were supposed to offer protection. It captures the heavy, quiet walls built in the aftermath of trauma, where trust is hard to come by and 95% of life is spent navigating the quiet world of one's own mind. But at its core, this song is not an admission of defeat; it is a plea for understanding and a declaration of a heart that refused to turn bitter, choosing instead to love fiercely from a distance. A Dedication of Survival and Hope "I am not giving up, I'm just so weary now / I want to find some peace and love somehow" This track is dedicated with profound love and respect to anyone who has walked through the shadows of addiction and trauma. Specifically, it stands as a tribute to a journey that turned a pivotal corner in 2009, when a sacred promise was made to a new generation—to give up alcohol and drugs for the grandkids who represent a brighter, unbroken future. To anyone who has felt isolated by their past, broken by those they trusted, or tired from a lifetime of hurt: *this song is for you.* It is proof that even when you are weary, it is never too late to heal what has been broken, speak the words left unspoken, and find the peace you have always deserved.more
