Hlumelo (born September 16,2001), professionally known as MELO, is a South African rapper and record producer. Melo’s music has been variously considered alternative hip-hop, bedroompop, jazz rap, R&B, and neo soul, while his earlier music was considered horrorcore. Over the years, his style of production has progressed from gritty and dark in early projects, but soon transitioned to a more jazz-based approach, with the mix-tape “POST VERIFIED LIFESTYLES”, which Kakaza described as his most personal body of work to date. ”Releasing post verified lifestyles felt like ripping pages out my diary and showing it to the world. It sucked, but not as much as it was empowering to myself and others” Melo reminisces. My music influences has to be King Krule, Die Antwoord, Tyler the creator, Frank Ocean , Kanye West, Ian Conner, Pharrell Williams. They lay a blueprint for the way I strive to package my music and present myself as an artist.
