Monet (born April 2, 1988) is an American singer, songwriter, producer and model from Clarksville, Tennessee. She was born unable to swallow, which is a rare birth defect called Esophageal Atresia or EA.
“As a child I was not able to talk and was supposed to be mentally disabled, but yet I could sing and could memorize the words,” she said. “I’ve been writing songs from 12 on up. Now, I mainly write my songs and arrange them.” - Monet
In 2014, It was the title track, “Love’s Unfair,” that caught the attention of representatives of Tate Music Group, a music and book publishing company. She sent them a demo of the song, and they signed her to a recording and distribution deal.
However, after Richard Tate, the firm's founder, and his son Ryan Tate, its CEO, were arrested on eight felony charges of embezzlement, extortion and racketeering. Monet suffered a great loss from unpaid royalties and she lost her distribution deal.
