The first album I bought with my own money was ‘Disco’ by @petshopboys. It was a mid-priced remix album for £5.00 consisting of 6x12 inch remixes. I was transported into a world of futuristic sounds, rhythms and imaginary landscapes. I was hooked! I was 11 at the time and had a yearning inside me to try and make some music myself. I gathered all the catalogues of shops that sold keyboards and hoped one day that I would own one. I found a little Yamaha mini-keyboard that had a really basic sampler for about £60.00 and whenever I came back from school I would sit there staring at the page looking forward to Christmas. Christmas morning came in 1986 and I was expecting that little mono mini-keyboard that would give me endless fun mucking around with that sampler, but to my astonishment, I was given a far superior one. Thanks Mum! I couldn’t read music but managed to have a knack for creating melodies and themes. I used to dream of chord changes. Odd but I still do!
