The Weight of the Cross I remixed and worked on this piece all day, carefully shaping every sound until it expressed what I wanted to convey. This is a Christian instrumental inspired by the Passion of Jesus Christ and His journey carrying the Cross to Calvary. There is definitely an avant-garde element to this piece. I had the opportunity to shape the saxophone in a very expressive way, almost as though it were another voice in the story. In certain passages, the saxophone seems to cry through the music, while in others it feels as though it is communicating the pain, sorrow, and emotional weight of what Jesus was going through. I wanted the music to take the listener into that moment—not simply to hear the suffering, but to feel the journey. The physical weight of the Cross was enormous, but the spiritual and emotional weight Jesus carried was far greater. He willingly endured suffering and gave His life for us. The unusual textures and avant-garde touches are intentional. I wanted the music to move beyond a traditional instrumental arrangement and allow the instruments themselves to express something that words sometimes cannot. I spent the entire day remixing, refining, and listening carefully because I wanted the final version to sound exactly the way I felt it should. “The Weight of the Cross” is my musical reflection on the suffering, sacrifice, and extraordinary love of Jesus Christ.
