I don’t just rap to entertain. I rap to expose, to heal, to give voices to the unheard. And that’s something NF taught me. He’s one of the few artists who doesn’t just make music—he bleeds into it. He made vulnerability a weapon, pain an instrument, and truth something you can feel in your chest. That’s what I aim for in everything I write. I want my music to hit different. I want it to leave a mark. If you listen and walk away feeling something like anger, sadness, hope then I’ve done my job.
This song isn’t about me. It’s about the ones who were taken, the ones who were lost, and the ones who still fight to be seen. It’s about every wall built to divide, every voice shut down by greed, every dream stolen by a system that profits off struggle. And most importantly, it’s about never letting those stories go unheard.
It took a while for me to finish writing this rap, but I finally took this weekend to finish the production process. Let me know what you guys think. I'll have it up on Spotify next month. Thank you.
[Lyrics]
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
They drew a line, but the fine print’s fake,
Stamped that fate, now they trapped in a—state,
Not of mind, but a place with no rights, no claim,
No land, no stand, just a man displaced.
Papers torn like the homes they burned,
Past got stripped, now they turn that page,
Visa void like a voice they mute,
Tryna box ‘em in like a case mislaid.
[Chorus]
Ohhh, I keep running but the road’s too long, (Ohhhh)
Try to swim but the tide's too strong, (Noooo... )
Say I’m fine but the words don’t land,
Fake that smile, play my part
fade like dust in the dark.
[Verse 2]
Barbed wires' height where the skies turn black
Hope in a bag but the tags got snatched
Caught at the gate like a bishop misplayed,
That’s check, not chess, no piece comes back.
Cuffs too cold, but the sun stay hot,
Whole fam split like a vote deadlocked,
Fence too high, but the dream too low,
Got tossed, now they lost like a dropped AirPod.
[Chorus]
Ohhh, I keep running but the road’s too long, (Ohhhh)
Try to swim but the tide's too strong, (Noooo... )
Say I’m fine but the words don’t land,
Fake that smile, play my part
fade like dust in the da-rk.
[Verse 3]
Gave ‘em the shovel, then buried their name,
Stacked that tax, then they snatched their pay,
Built these cities with the sweat they shed,
Now they get exiled like kings betrayed.
Pass that bill like a bar too weak,
Pass that blame when the bars don’t speak (SAY SOMETHING),
Say “hands up,” but the hands in cuffs,
Say “chase dreams,” but the chase too deep.
[Bridge]
Somebody save me, I’m losing air,
Hands up high but nobody's there.
Falling so fast, it’s a long way down,
Will I hit the ground? Will I make a sound?
Weight on my chest, I can’t pull through,
Lights too dim and the world’s see-through.
Call my name but it fades too quick,
One last step, am I gone like this?
[Chorus]
Ohhh, I keep running but the road’s too long, (Ohhhh)
Try to swim but the tide's too strong, (Noooo... )
Say I’m fine but the words don’t land,
Fake that smile, play my part
fade like dust in the dark!
