This song is basically me being honest about what it feels like to be stuck in a place.. physically and emotionally.. after losing someone I really loved.
It’s about driving around my small town at night with the windows down, radio low, just trying to clear my head… but every road, every song, every corner still reminds me of her.. No matter how far I drive, I’m not actually going anywhere. I’m just circling the same memories.
When I say I’m “driving with my heart in the trunk” I mean I’m trying to hide how much it still hurts. I act like I’m fine. I smile.. People think I’ve moved on.. But I’m still messed up over it. I still haven’t deleted her name. I still smell her hoodie. I still hear her laugh in my head. That’s the real part of it.
The small town plays a big role in the song too. In a place like that, you can’t escape memories. The barstool still creaks. The same people are there.. The sunsets feel the same. Everything feels frozen in time even though everyone says I should be over it by now.
It’s also about loving hard. That “small town love” burned fast and bright, like a shooting star. It was real and when something real ends, it doesn’t just disappear because time passes. Some scars stick when the love was true.. and that’s what I’m saying in this song.
By the end, nothing’s really changed. Same road. Same rain. Same pain. I’m still here. Still stuck on her. It’s not just a breakup song.. it’s me admitting that sometimes growing up means letting go… and sometimes you’re just not ready to.more
