Things have been a bit heavy lately, and when things get heavy in my world, I write.
I know people are listening to my music, and I truly appreciate every person who has listened, shared it, or passed one of my songs along. ❤️
Every song I’ve written began with a true story.
This one is no different.
“Rest Your Neck” was written in response to the dehumanization, indifference, and abuse of power that can exist inside correctional institutions, and the devastating weight that words can carry.
At the center of this song is a man who wanted his PIN so he could call his mom.
That’s it.
One PIN. One call. One voice from home.
Maybe it would have been just another phone call.
Maybe it was his lifeline.
This song is about that moment, but it’s also about something much bigger. It’s about dignity. Accountability. Constitutional rights. Human connection. And the fact that incarceration does not erase someone’s humanity.
Words matter.
How we treat people matters.
And sometimes, some words last forever.
