Sometimes I wonder why doing the right thing just isn't enough. Not that I've ever claimed to be a saint. Pretty sure I'd fail the job interview anyway.
This song's about something pretty ridiculous: trying to be honest, staying loyal, doing things right, and somehow ending up accused of everything the other person's doing. It's almost like some people use their own behavior as evidence against you.
And then there's this whole thing about glass. Quick science detour, sorry, I do that sometimes. When you look through a window, about 4% of the light reflects off its surface. So sometimes you think you're looking at someone, when you're mostly just seeing your own reflection.
Anyway, I've learned something: being honest doesn't mean people will believe you. But at least you don't have to keep track of your lies. And seriously, I already have enough trouble finding my keys.
[VERSE]
You say I never tell the truth
But no lies ever leave my mouth
And you say you can't trust me
While you're hiding things from me
[CHORUS]
Why isn't doing things right enough?
You can't make me feel small
Why isn't doing things right enough?
All I can see now is the fall
[VERSE]
Baby, you say I've got somebody else
But you're leering like you're casting spells
You say you want to speak
And the words of your silences peak
[CHORUS]
Why isn't doing things right enough?
You can't make me feel small
Why isn't doing things right enough?
All I can see now is the fall
[VERSE]
Doing things right isn't a hack
It's the only way I've found to be free
Through the glass, you only see the four percent bouncing back
You believe you can see me, but you are not me
[CHORUS]
Why isn't doing things right enough?
You can't make me feel small
Why isn't doing things right enough?
All I can see now is the fall
Why isn't doing things right enough?
Take a look at yourself and make a change
Why isn't doing things right enough?
Without pain, some things will never change
Why isn't doing things right enough?
You can't make me feel small
Why isn't doing things right enough?
All I can see now is the fall
Why isn't doing things right enough?more
