Ships Passing
"Ships Passing" opens in motion — bells, urgency, a mind already running — and never quite lets you settle. Built on deep drone textures and Yaa Mensah Brjánnsdóttir's ethereal lead vocal, the track carries an unmistakable quality: something ancient moving through something modern, Ethiopian devotional music filtered through downtempo electronics and indie sensibility. Her voice doesn't so much sing the melody as haunt it. JB's lyric works in the tension between ambition and failure, distraction and discipline — the drop-in-the-bucket feeling of trying to change something vast with limited tools. But the chorus turns that anxiety into a quiet manifesto: one percent improved by sundown. It's the Atomic Habits as love song, incremental progress dressed in morning light. The bridge lands gently and precisely — two ships, open water, a choice about who follows whom. It reframes everything before it. What felt like a motivational anthem reveals itself as something more intimate: a relationship navigating the same currents, trying to stay in sight of each other. Drone, drift, and discipline in equal measure — Ships Passing is Kwameku at their most atmospheric.more
