The Wedding Dress Was Black
I can count on the fingers of one hand the people I’ve told this story to, about my first love, a childhood schoolmate who took her own life. We were twelve at the time, she was my only friend. I was new at the school, and she reached out to me, even though I kept my guard up at first, she won me over. Just as our feelings were deepening into something more, she vanished. The teacher said she had moved to another city with her parents, but a few months later, I discovered the truth.
I carried that wound for a long time, and only as an adult, after realizing the damage it had caused me, did I write this song for her, in an attempt to heal that wound.
