Göçmen Selfie (Transmigratioon of Souls)
Producers Note:
As the producer of this song, I personally find it both charming and quite curious. That’s why I’ve decided to rework and re-release it. Most likely, I’ll distribute it to other platforms as well via DistroKid.
For friends who are interested in my music, I want to provide the English translation of the lyrics below along with a few cultural notes to help make sense of the references.
So—what is a simit?
Simit is a type of bread we have here in Türkiye. It’s kind of like a sesame-covered, savory version of a bagel or maybe something between a doughnut and a pretzel—although that still doesn’t fully capture it. It’s typically eaten in the mornings, often filled with cheese or just plain, and best enjoyed with a cup of Turkish tea.
The simitçi (simit seller) is an iconic and almost mythical figure in the urban culture of Istanbul. You can find one pretty much anywhere. Traditionally, they are simple and cash-based—no fancy tech, no QR codes. You hand over your coins, and you get your warm simit. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
But... in this song, we take a stroll through a more dystopian version of Istanbul—one shaped by the demands and absurdities of the digital age. Naturally, our simitçi has evolved to reflect that. I hope this twist brings a smile to your face.
Also… yes, let me clarify: the line says “between Üsküdar and Sirkeci.” That’s a tunnel—an underground metro passage connecting the two sides of Istanbul (Asian and European). Right in the middle of that tunnel, internet connection drops. And when that happens, our protagonist finally lifts his head and looks around.
I’m including this note so you can understand why the lyrics take that particular turn.
The rest of the song is, I think, quite self-explanatory. But if you’re curious about anything else, feel free to ask. This track gave me a lot of joy while making it.
I originally envisioned it as Transmigration of Souls—our collective migration into the digital. And I think it turned out quite powerful and beautiful. I really love it. I hope you enjoy it too.

Turkish Lyrics
Uykulu zihnim düştü yola
Göçenler kervanına...
Taksim’de yürürken o
Göz attı telefonuna.
Kısmeti metada,
Nasibi algoritmada.
Merkezi ezanlarla
Kanatlanan ruhum...
Görmez artık Kız Kulesi’ni.
Her yeri sis bastı,
Gemiler kayboldu...
Bir tünelde ayıldım
Üsküdar’la Sirkeci arasında.
Bağlantısız o anda
Her yer doldu seslerle:
Yüzler, bakışlar, kokularla...
Bir tünelde ayıldım
Üsküdar’la Sirkeci arasında.
Bağlantısız o anda
Her yer doldu seslerle:
Yüzler, bakışlar, kokularla...
Ahh... hiç sönmez bu ekran.
Özçekimler olmasa
Yok olur yüzüm sosyal medyada...
Ahh... hiç sönmez bu ekran.
Özçekimler olmasa
Yok olur yüzüm sosyal medyada...
Kadıköy İskelesi’nde
Simitçi bağırıyordu.
— Simit var, taze, yumuşak!
— Kart geçer, Küuu Arrrr... da okuruz — elhamdülillah!
— Simitçiniz artık instagıram’da...
— NFC, temassız; indirim story’de!
— Nakit yok; simit kirleniyor!
— Ama isteyen için hâlâ temaslı var...
Başını kaldıran bile olmadı
Sözümona kalabalıkta.
Ben vardım, sen de belki...
Ama ayrılık, gayrılık kalmadı artık.
Göç ettik hepimiz biz.
Peki neden hiç kimse yok?..
Neden hâlâ tek başınayız?..
Geldiğimiz bu yer... neresi?
Peki neden hiç kimse yok?..
Neden hâlâ tek başınayız?..
Geldiğimiz bu yer... neresi?
Peki neden hiç kimse yok?..
Neden hâlâ tek başınayız?..
Geldiğimiz bu yer... neresi?

My sleepy mind hit the road,
Joining the caravan of those who’ve left...
While walking through Taksim,
She glanced at her phone.
His fate lies in the metadata,
His destiny within the algorithm.
My soul, once uplifted by the call to prayer,
Can no longer see the Maiden's Tower.
Fog has covered everything,
The ships have vanished...
I came to my senses in a tunnel,
Somewhere between Üsküdar and Sirkeci.
At that moment—disconnected—
The world filled with sounds:
Faces, glances, scents all around me...
I came to my senses in a tunnel,
Somewhere between Üsküdar and Sirkeci.
At that moment—disconnected—
The world filled with sounds:
Faces, glances, scents all around me...
Ahh... this screen never dies.
Without the selfies,
My face would disappear
On social media...
Ahh... this screen never dies.
Without the selfies,
My face would disappear
On social media...
At the Kadıköy pier,
A simit seller was shouting.
— Fresh simit! Soft and warm!
— We take cards, QR too — praise be!
— Your simit guy is now on Instagram…
— NFC, touchless; discounts, giveaways — check our story!
— No cash please, simit gets dirty!
— But we still offer contact if you want it...
Not a single person looked up
In this so-called crowd.
I was there — maybe you too...
But there's no separation left now.
We’ve all migrated.
So why is no one here?..
Why are we still so alone?..
Where is this place we’ve arrived at?..
So why is no one here?..
Why are we still so alone?..
