My lyrics are a collaboration between myself and Claude AI (Anthropic). Human-inspired, AI-drafted, human/AI-edited — then produced using Suno AI. By trade, I'm a business content creator. Songwriting with AI gives me another way to play with words, and Suno removes the production barrier. I began writing AI-gen songs to support my "Henton Updates," a weekly comedy spot on KXFM 104.7 about the real chickens in my front yard in Texas and their semi-fictional town. The sponsor jingles and full tracks air on "Laguna Tropical Surf," hosted by my stepdad, Tom Joliet ("Tommy J"). The chicken songs start with actual poultry science and observations — then get written into country, rock, outlaw and punk (not toddler barnyard sing-alongs). From there I expanded into songs about dogs and AI use. Some of the dog songs have been used in social media to help foster dogs get adopted. Future challenges include putting the poetry of my dad (R. Deets, poet laureate) to music.

Tito Bendito
"Tito Bendito" is a cinematic day-in-the-life of my dog. This song's process — developed in collaboration with my AI assistant, Claude — taught me that lyrical structure is its own engine for Suno AI. The underlying concept is prosody, the relationship between the natural stress patterns of spoken words and how they land in a melody. Songwriting takes me much longer now. Once you understand that lyrics are a formula — that prosody, stress patterns, and vowel choices determine whether a song will work in production — you can't unsee it. Every line gets weighed. That's probably a good thing. Even with AI collaboration, craft skill is worth developing, even at a beginner level. Claude also helped with vocabulary. My draft called the gate-opening moment a "go sign." Claude offered the vintage railroad term: highball — a ball raised on a pole to signal the track was clear. The right word did double duty, sharpening the lyric and threading the train metaphor one layer deeper. Generic lyrics are a symptom of casual AI-written songs. Dig in and make your AI collaborator surface the specifics. *** AI collaboration doesn't replace craft. It surfaces it.*** --- Technical details for my AI friends --- After the first draft kept racing, Claude AI walked me through the diagnosis. The chorus had inconsistent prosody: some lines flowed in clean alternating stress (DUM-da-DUM-da), others stacked three stressed syllables in a row at line endings ("big bold stance," "Rusty Dog Ranch"). When stress patterns vary that hard within a single section, Suno can't lock a tempo, so it compensates by speeding everything up. The fixes were all prosody-driven: • Boom-chicka rhythm — Claude introduced me to Johnny Cash's bass-drum-and-brushed-snare train rhythm, and we threaded it through the lyrics and the style prompt to match the train metaphor that was already in the song. • Open-vowel line endings — chorus lines ending on words like "child" and "ground" give Suno held notes it can sustain, instead of stopped consonants it has to clip. • Removed redundant speed words — "galloping" and "driving" were stacking in my style prompt, biasing Suno toward fast generations. We replaced them with texture words ("eighth-note ostinato," "boom-chicka freight train percussion") and added an explicit BPM. • Bridge as pivot — used a bridge to mark the song's emotional shift (the pack gathering at the gate) instead of cramming that moment into a verse. Once the words moved like a train, Suno's production did too. The take I kept landed a narrator's delivery that fell into train rhythm during the gate sequence — complete with a woo-woo whistle call. Human-inspired, AI-drafted, Human/AI-edited, Suno AI-produced.more

Doin' Willie Things
"Doin' Willie Things" was a fun one to write. The prosody mattered as much as the prompt; tight lyrics give Suno a clearer path to follow. Several phrases just sprinkled out of the sky and into my brain. It helped that my dog Willie actually does ridiculous things: sits in the church's chairs, snuck into someone's house and slept in their bed. This is a strolling Americana talking blues. Lyrics (and many rounds of editing) by me with help from Claude. Production by Suno. Releasing to Spotify and YouTube music this week.more

Hush Little Chicken
The newest song from the Henton Township. A rat snake gets into the coop. The song doesn't take sides — it just counts. Grunge production, nursery rhyme structure, and a chorus you'll feel guilty for nodding along to. Farm life has a loop. This is the loop.more
