Josephine De Smet is a singer-songwriter from Belgium. She describes her style as “dark pop”, usually containing synths, drums, bass and layered vocals all coming together to create a sultry, mysterious, dark, sensual vibe. Her powerful yet delicate voice has an operatic timbre to it and is accentuated by the Belgian accent, giving a different spin to the Americanized vocabulary. Her candid lyricism is characterized by taboo subjects such as addiction, bullying, depression, suicide. She conveys strong emotions with lyrics that are painfully honest and relatable. Making herself vulnerable to make others feel seen, she’s destined to be the voice of the unheard. Josephine draws inspiration from artists like Billie Eilish, Tate McRae, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

I Only Trust Myself
Spotify pre-save: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/josephinedesmet/i-only-trust-myself I Only Trust Myself is a song about society having a path in mind for you to walk but it doesn’t align with what you want or who you are. A huge source of inspiration for this song was the movie Divergent. It can feel terrifying to see everyone around you moving in one direction and you going another way and that can apply to many aspects of life: having a career that’s different, not wanting kids, sexual preference, gender, the pressure of family honor, … This song makes you feel how liberating it is to live life on your own terms. Once you know what you want in life and you put away the fear of being perceived a certain way, there’s absolutely nothing that can stop you. It’s about being on that very edge where you’re ready to chase what you want. Knowing you can’t go back. The fear you feel in that moment, not knowing what’s to come. https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/josephinedesmet/i-only-trust-myselfmore

What If I'm Right
I wrote this song when my mom relapsed with alcohol abuse. It felt like the good moments had been a dream and I just woke up. It's the song I'm the proudest of. Acapella, harmonies. I poured all my pain into it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lyrics: what if I'm right and we were a lie all along cause you knew my feelings but went and chose booze over it all - what if I'm worthy of the love that you neglected me when I was just a little kid cause you didn't have time for me - don't have the right to take away my potential, my mental state just because you couldn't keep control - oh I'm gonna be honest if history repeats itself I'm not sure I can help you I'm not equipped to deal with this - I don't know how I'll react when our past hits chapter 2 cause that would mean that everything we've been trough wasn't true - boy, I'm trying to slip my mind but it just keeps catching up with me and breathing is a have-to-do cause it's just getting heavier for me - choir: tired swimming against all the odds I'm drowning, it's never enough I'm thinking that the way I'm treating me is not good - oh I'm gonna be honest if history repeats itself I'm not sure I can help you I'm not equipped to deal with this - I don't know how I'll react when our past hits chapter 2 cause that would mean that everything we've been trough wasn't true - choir: true - swimming against all the odds I'm drowning, it's never enough I'm thinking that the way I'm treating me is not good at all - likely to be sinking down I try to turn it all around I'm facing a choice between my life or yours I'm going overboard - I'm gonna be honest if history repeats itself I'm not sure I can help you I'm not equipped to deal with this - I don't know how I'll react when our past hits chapter 2 cause that would mean that everything we've been trough wasn't truemore
